Or to what Pickett calls a "Pick 6."
"I'm going to pick six schools that will be my finalists," said Pickett. "I hope to have my top six like in two weeks, right before the season starts. And I want to decide after my fourth game before we start league play."
In the meantime, Pickett is trying to see some schools, with one official visit set and another unofficial visit taken this week to nearby Cal.
"It was good at Cal," said Pickett. "I talked with Coach (Randy) Stewart and Coach (Sonny) Dykes."
Pickett will take his first official visit at the end of this month.
"I've set up one visit to UCLA at the end of this month for August 31st," said Pickett. "Coach Meat (Demetrice Martin) is who I always talk to and he and Coach Angus (McClure) set it up for me."
Pickett is also pretty sure he'll be visiting USC, with that date still to be set.
"I'm trying to take an official visit to USC early, I know I'm going to visit there," said Pickett.
Pickett is also hearing often about the Trojans from teammate D.J. Calhoun, a commit to USC.
"D.J. has been telling me to fight on with him in college," said Pickett. "He's quiet about it but real cool. He doesn't always talk about USC but said if that's the best decision for me, he'd love for us to end up at the same school."
"Arizona State is on me real hard," said Pickett. "Coach (Chris) Ball, Coach (Joe) Lorig and Coach (Todd) Graham are who I talk to."
And Cal got him to visit this week and has several friends of his on the team as well as another teammate committed.
"Jalen (Harvey) is saying 'be your own man,'" but is talking up Cal," said Pickett. "I talk to Coach Stewart mostly, but also with Coach (Andy) Buh, Coach (Pierre) Ingram and Coach (Dykes). And Cal has Austin Harper (another teammate walking on at the Cal) and Michael Barton (a former teammate of his brother)."
Pickett said that most of the schools he's interested in have offered but a Big Ten school that hasn't offered has been in contact.
"I know I've been in contact a lot with Wisconsin but I don't know if they'll offer me," said Pickett. "We'll see what they do."
Pickett and the Gauchos begin fall practice on August 12.
