Bruins Offer Louisiana DB

Louisiana 2015 defensive back Xavier Lewis landed his fifth offer a few days ago, this one from UCLA, after visiting the Westwood campus, and Lewis gives us his reaction to the latest development...

Xavier Lewis is up to five offers now that UCLA has joined the list.

"I went to California and visited UCLA," he said. "I was excited to get the offer. The campus is beautiful and the coaches said it would be a good home for me.

"They liked how when they first saw me in person that I have long arms. They love corners with long arms. They'd watched my film a lot and like my physical style."

LSU, Arizona State, Tulane and the Ragin' Cajuns in Lafayette have also offered.

"I'm open to anybody that's willing to offer me a scholarship," Lewis said. "I haven't made my mind up about where I'll commit.

"At UCLA, I liked how Coach (Demetrice) Martin is open and real with you. He shows you how it is and how he treats his players. He and Coach (Steve) Broussard said if I come there, don't mess around, and be about my business then I could be on the field as a freshman."

Lewis and University Lab 2015 running Nicholas Brossette would like to play for the same college.

"That's the plan," Lewis said. "Nick and I played together at the same middle school, Broadmoor, when we were in the sixth grade.

"We got real close."

Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Alabama and Florida are four programs that could pull the trigger on Lewis the future.

"Alabama camp went real well," Lewis said, "although I had to adapt to Coach Saban's style of play for defensive backs. He likes corners to do some things differently than I've been accustomed to in the past, and I was able to learn new things.

"I like Alabama's cover two style of defense."
