On his performance so far:
It's just great to seize the opportunity and get better every day. I'm just thankful for the advantage and trying to do the best I can.

On his weight when he got to UCLA:
I played tight end in high school so I weighed about 245. And now I'm weighing about 275. Just working hard in the weight room, protein shakes, Coach Alosi has put me on a good workout plan. It's been a great offseason. I'm just eating as much as I can. A lot of carbs, a lot of vegetables. Eating your three: carbs, protein, vegetables. And just eating as much as I can. I'm eating 4-5 meals a day. I like to eat.

On what he needs to work on at tackle:
I just really want to work on getting my technique perfect and staying as physical as I can and trying to get better every day and trying to do the best I can. Coach Klemm just wants me to be very technically sound. Working on my footwork every single day. Not being an error repeater, just getting better. I feel very comfortable at both and just wherever they need me, I'll be ready.

On how much blocking he did in high school as a tight end:
Between blocking and pass routes, it was probably 50-50. Last year it was an adjustment, but this is fun and it's not much of an adjustment.

On playing some tight end last year:
The Turkey Bowl. It was fun and kind of reminded me of when I was a kid and playing two-hand touch and everyone is a wide receiver. It was fun.

On if he hopes to be used in a tackle-eligible play:
Those are always fun and I wouldn't say no to that.

On his goals for the season and beyond at UCLA:
By the end of my time at UCLA, I want to be a starter, for one. But I just really want this year to get better with my technique, get real technically sound and earn a starting spot for my team. I'm feeling good, I have to keep taking it to my advantage as I can, and try to get better, and whatever Coach Klemm gives me, I'll take the opportunity.

On what his goal weight is:
I'll take as much as I can get. 290-295. I'm 6-8, 6-9. Trying to (pack on).
