In a game featuring a pair of BCS quarterback commitments, this game has some UCLA intrigue. Of course, the defensive headliner in the game is UCLA verbal Jojo McIntosh, a safety for Chaminade and probably the top defensive prospect in the game. But the real focus here could be on Brad Kaaya, the Miami commit who is Chaminade's quarterback. With the chance that UCLA could be offering Kaaya soon, his first few games will go a long way with the UCLA coaches in determining if/when he gets the offer. He'll have his first opportunity to throw this season tonight against Venice, who has Indiana commit Alexander Diamont leading their offense. Another player that UCLA is watching closely is Donovan Lee, a versatile slot-running back, who also plays corner. Brayden Lenius, a Canadian import in his first year with Chaminade, is a 6-5 receiver that should see a lot of passes from Kaaya.
Corona Santiago vs. Newhall Hart on FOX Sports West at 7:30 p.m.
The Sharks will be led on defense by UCLA commit Ron Robinson and at quarterback, 2015 passer Blake Barnett, who camped with UCLA this summer. Hart features one of the top quarterbacks in the country in the 2015 class, Brady White, who UCLA is watching as well as 2015 four-star receiver Trent Irwin.
Crenshaw vs. Long Beach Poly
The Jackrabbits got off to a rough start in 2012 only to rebound and win the prestigious Pac-5 Championship over Mater Dei. Poly has the best defensive back tandem in the country in senior safety Juju Smith and junior cornerback Iman Marshall, both whom UCLA heavily covets and both who are expected at the Rose Bowl on Saturday. Smith is a highlight reel waiting to happen at defensive back and receiver. Crenshaw returns dynamic quarterback Ajene Harris. Harris is undersized for the college level, but that doesn't help anyone trying to slow him down on Friday Nights and has an offer from San Diego State as an athlete.
Upland vs. Mater Dei
Mater Dei returns 15 starters from a Pac-5 final team including quarterback Chase Forrest who helped lead the Monarch run in the playoffs and camped with UCLA this summer. Mater Dei tight end Kyle Penniston, who also camped with UCLA this summer and is certainly on their radar, has already gotten a scholarship offer from Florida State as a junior. Upland has junior quarterback Tyler Hilinski, who joined the Scots last year from Notre Dame and will make his first start for Upland and is someone UCLA will certainly watch. There are also two elite juniors at Upland, that both did really well at the UCLA Elite Camp, Kameron Powell and Elijah Jones, both 2015 safeties.
Fresno Central vs. Hanford
After being humbled on national television a week ago, Fresno Central returns to the Central Valley to play Hanford. A week ago, Central did a poor job getting the ball to five-star receiver Michiah Quick, who UCLA has set their sights on, and you can expect them to reverse that this week. Central defensive tackle Tashon Smallwood has cooled on USC, where he's been committed since February, and UCLA is still recruiting him, but he'll have more work to do this week with his fellow defensive tackle Sharif Williams, an Arizona commit, being lost for the season.
Corona Centennial vs. Henderson (Nev.) Liberty
Corona Centennial welcomes one of Nevada's top programs in their opener. Liberty is led by Army commit Jarvis Polu and his 2015 two-way lineman brother Justin Polu. Centennial returns one of the most talented rosters in the West, with UCLA commit Barry Ware at receiver, Bruin target Viane Talamaivao on the offensive line, Cal commit but UCLA recruit Tre Watson at running back and plenty of other elite prospects.
Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco vs. Compton Dominguez
St. John Bosco has 2015 quarterback Josh Rosen, UCLA's top quarterback target in that class, leading a stout offense which also features five-star offensive guard Damien Mama, UCLA's top offensive line recruit. Dominguez has defensive end Uriah Leiataua, who UCLA is interested in and wanting to watch the first few games of his senior year. He'll get a chance to make an impression going against Mama.
Carmel (Ind.) vs. Louisville (Ky.) Trinity
UCLA verbal Austin Roberts and Carmel will host Louisville Trinity, the 2011 prep national champions and one of the best teams in the country, in their second game of the season.
Compton (Calif.) Centennial vs. Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison
With newly offered cornerback Denzel Fisher, Centennial will face O.C. powerhouse Edison in their season opener. Edison has some good young talent as well, but Fisher is the headliner in this game.
Mesa (Ariz.) Desert Ridge vs. Gardena Serra
Serra travels down to San Diego to play Desert Ridge on Saturday afternoon. Serra has all the players, eight with UCLA offers, including committed receiver Jordan Lasley, as well as five-star cornerback Adoree Jackson, four-star linebacker Dwight Williams, three-star safety Glenn Ihenacho, 2015 five-star linebacker John Houston, 2015 four-star defensive lineman Rasheem Green and 2015 four-star running back Malik Roberson (who is out for the year with an ACL injury) as well 2016 safety Brandon Burton.
Houston (Texas) Lamar vs. Houston (Texas) Klein Forest
Houston's secondary features two UCLA targets in four-star safety John Bonney and four-star corner John Plattenburg, who recently rejoined the team after playing for Corona Centennial.
Other UCLA Targets in Action
Elk Grove (Calif.) Cosumnes Oaks receiver Alex Van Dyke will play Roseville (Calif.). Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure tight end Bryce Dixon faces Los Angeles (Calif.) Garfield. Pomona (Calif.) Diamond Ranch offensive lineman Kammy Delp takes on Chino (Calif.). Lompoc (Calif.) defensive tackle Ainuu Taua goes against Arroyo Grande (Calif.). El Cerrito (Calif.) cornerback Adarius Pickett will play Sutter (Calif.) before taking his official visit to UCLA this weekend.
