Juju Enjoys UCLA Game

Long Beach Poly (Calif.) athlete Juju Smith was a key factor in the Jackrabbits opening season win over a tough Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw team on Friday and then checked out UCLA's home opener Saturday night...

Juju Smith is a top 10 player nationally and showed why on Friday. He impacted the game at his customary safety and receiver position but also played some running back late in the game and looked like a natural at that position as well.

"I'll do whatever helps the team win," Smith said. "I love playing on both sides of the ball and every school is recruiting me as an athlete right now. I really don't have a preference to be honest, it's even between safety and receiver, I'll do whatever helps the team and gets me on the field."

Saturday night, Smith made the short road trip to the Rose Bowl to watch UCLA take on Nevada.

"I had a great time, it was fun hanging out with all the other recruits there," Smith said. "UCLA looked really good, they blew them out in the 2nd half and were really impressive. I got to go in to the locker room after the game and I really enjoyed myself.

"I went with some of my teammates from Poly and I also hung out with Damien (Mama), Josh Rosen, Scrappy (Stanley Norman), Kammy Delp, Cordell Broadus and some of the Crenshaw players as well. We all get along really well so it was real chill just being with those guys watching the game and taking in the experience."

Smith has already set up official visits with Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State and is still trying to lock in a date with Ole Miss.

"Ole Miss will be my last visit but I still need to set that one," Smith said. "I'm trying to figure out when the best weekend will be and some of their home games are on dates when I already have a visit set up.

"I'm going to try and get to the USC game next week against Washington State. I'm going to try and go to as many USC and UCLA games as I can this year when I'm not taking one of my official visits already. I usually get bored watching football, I just like to play it but I had fun at the UCLA game.

"I wasn't really watching any specific position, I was just watching the game as a fan. Coach Martin and Broussard are the two coaches recruiting me and it's funny, I know the offensive and defensive staffs are fighting over me right now. It's crazy but it's all good, I like it, it always feels good to be wanted."
