The Indians, led by 2015 four-star Brady White, outlasted the Sharks by a touchdown. UCLA commit Ron Robinson had a tackle in the game, while White shredded the Sharks for 471 yards on 35-of-46 passing with three touchdowns. White also ran for 45 yards and a pair of touchdowns. 2015 four-star receiver Trent Irwin had four catches for 93 yards. For Santiago, 2015 quarterback Blake Barnett was 23-for-43 for 289 yards and five touchdowns with one pick and ran for 92 yards on four carries, with an 87-yard touchdown run.
Long Beach Poly def. Crenshaw, 28-15
The Jackrabbits got a big night from Juju Smith on both sides of the ball. Smith had five catches for 78 yards and ran three times for 37 yards and also made a big impact on special teams. He had a 32-yard kickoff return and a 38-yard punt return and also helped the Jackrabbits shut down Crenshaw's passing game.
Mater Dei def. Upland, 44-13
Mater Dei had no problem with Upland in their opener. Mater Dei quarterback Chase Forrest was 8-for-11 for 159 yards and a touchdown. Upland quarterback Tyler Hilinski was 18-for-29 for 243 yards and an interception in the loss. Junior safety Kameron Powell had eight tackles and junior safety Elijah Jones had four tackles in the loss.
Fresno Central def. Hanford, 38-16
Five-star receiver Michiah Quick had a big night, catching six passes, one for a touchdown, and adding a 95-yard kick return for a touchdown to help the Grizzlies bounce back from their opening loss.
Corona Centennial def. Henderson (Nev.) Liberty, 60-42
Corona Centennial running back Tre Watson, a Cal commit that UCLA is heavily after, ran for 319 yards on 33 carries and five touchdowns, running largely behind Viane Talamaivao. UCLA commit Barry Ware had six catches for 109 yards and a touchdown and added 40 yards in returns.
Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco def. Compton Dominguez, 40-7
St. John Bosco's five-star 2015 quarterback Josh Rosen, had an efficient opener, going 12-for-15 for 307 yards and five touchdowns, including a stretch of seven straight completions for 183 yards.
Louisville (Ky.) Trinity def. Carmel (Ind.), 42-35
Though his team struggled to get him the ball, UCLA commit Austin Roberts did return a kick 97-yards for a touchdown in their intrastate loss to Trinity.
El Cerrito (Calif.) def. Sutter, 34-14
Just before leaving for his official visit to UCLA, Adarius Pickett had nine tackles and two interceptions in a 20-point win over Sutter.
Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison def. Compton (Calif.) Centennial, 27-18
On the night he got an offer from UCLA, which he'd ultimately commit to, Denzel Fisher had a handful of pass-break ups and seven tackles in a season-opening loss to Edison.
Gardena Serra def. Mesa (Ariz.) Desert Ridge, 28-22
Serra five-star Adoree Jackson had four receptions for 119 yards and two touchdowns and UCLA commit Jordan Lasley grabbed two passes for 58 yards and a touchdown. Dwight Williams had eight tackles and a tackle-for-loss, John Houston had seven tackles, Rasheem Green had five tackles and Glen Ihenacho added an interception, all seven UCLA targets making an impact in the game.
Chandler (Ariz.) def. Peoria (Ariz.) Centennial, 41-21.
Though UCLA receiver recruit Dionte Sykes did not play, UCLA 2015 offered athlete Bryce Perkins, Paul's younger brother and Chandler's quarterback, finished with 211 passing yards, and 115 rushing, with a pair of touchdown passes and a touchdown run in the win.
