Dixon Breaks Down Schools

The Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure tight end, Bryce Dixon, talks about his top schools...

Bryce Dixon is the most athletic tight end in the region and made several big catches Saturday night. He runs like a receiver, has huge hands and looks more filled out than he did a year ago. Dixon also looked a little more physical in the run game although his strength will always be his ability to make catches down the field.

On the recruiting front, Dixon has narrowed his list to five but could take his official visits to some schools outside of his top five.

"The one visit I have set up right now is with Oregon for (Oct. 19)," Dixon said. "I'm excited to get out there and see what it's like. I've heard great things about the facilities and I like that offense a lot.

"The other schools in my top five are USC, UCLA, Miami and Florida. I might take some other visits because I don't think I'll need to officially visit the two local schools, I've been there a lot already. Right now, my plan is to make my decision right before the playoffs start and then probably take my last official visit to the school I choose."

So is Dixon tipping his hand a bit by saying he'll take an official visit after he commits and he won't officially visit either local school before his decision?

"You caught that huh," Dixon said. "We'll see what happens, I've said before that I didn't want go far from home and I like the warm weather out here. That obviously helps USC and UCLA but I'm still going to do my visits with an open mind and see how it goes.

"I have a good relationship with both schools and like the coaches a lot. Coach (John) Baxter and Coach (Ed) Orgeron are recruiting me from USC and Coach (Taylor) Mazzone is talking to me from UCLA. Coach Baxter is a funny dude, we get along really well but I like all the coaches a lot.

"USC is recruiting me as a big receiver whereas UCLA and everyone else likes me at tight end. The tight end for UCLA gets flexed out, same with Oregon, so it's kind of similar for all the schools. I like how UCLA used Joe Fauria last year and I think I would fit in well with any of these schools. The trips will be big for me and then I think I'll have a good idea of what I want to do."
