Van Dyke In Visit Phase

Elk Grove (Calif.) Cosumnes Oaks wide out Alex Van Dyke took his first official visit to Oregon State this past weekend and had a great experience in Corvallis...

Alex Van Dyke is one of the elite receivers in the West with a lot of upside. He's tall and rangy with very good speed. He catches the ball well, can run after the catch and is a very tough cover.

Van Dyke is hoping to take at least three or four of his official visits and took No. 1 this past weekend to Oregon State.

"I had a great time, it was very good visit," Van Dyke said. "The high point for me was just being around the coaches and players. It's a real family atmosphere there and I was very comfortable. Coach (Brent) Brennan, the receiver coach, is a great guy and a great coach.

"We had breakfast at his house with all the receivers and you can tell everyone gets along really well. Brandin Cooks was my host and he's a great player. I enjoyed hanging out with him and I like the offense at Oregon State a lot. It's a pro-style offense with a nice balance of run and pass.

"The city of Corvallis was nice, too. It's a small town but not too small. I like that there's not really any distractions, you can just focus on football and school. I want to major in Kinesiology or Anatomy and they talked about their academic plan. Overall, it was a great trip, better than I thought it would be and I'm definitely giving Oregon State a very serious look."

The 6-4, 210-pound Van Dyke said his next trip will be to UCLA and he'll be finalizing the date.

"I think it might be (Oct. 12)," Van Dyke said. "I still need to lock that in but that's the weekend we talked about. I've been to UCLA before and I'm comfortable with the players, coaches and the campus. I have a good friend, Marcus Rios, who goes there and he really likes it a lot. I like the offense at UCLA and I think I would fit in there as well.

"I wouldn't say Oregon State and UCLA are my top two just because those are the two that I have dates with. I just liked the coaches and offense and they're recruiting me hard so those were the first two dates I wanted to set. I'm still trying to figure out the other ones right now.

"I have to sit down and figure that out with my family. I really have no idea right now where else I'll visit but I do want to take at least three or four of my visits before I make my decision. If a 5th school comes along that I really like, I could take a 5th trip too but I'm just thinking three or four right now."
