Smallwood's New Top Five

The Fresno (Calif.) Central defensive tackle, Tashon Smallwood, talks about his new top five after decommitting from USC...

Tashon Smallwood had been a USC fan for a while so when the Trojans offered him at their Junior Day, he committed on the spot. Fast forward several months and Smallwood said he's no longer committed to USC, although it sounds like it was a mutual decision.

"For me, it ultimately came down to the fact that I just felt they weren't interested in me any more," Smallwood said. "It had been forever since I've talked to them and before I committed, I heard from them all the time.

"I even reached out to them a few times but never heard back. Coach (Ed) Orgeron and (Clay) Helton were the coaches that were recruiting me but I was never able to get a hold of them so I finally decided that I should open up the process and start over."

Smallwood said he has five schools he's seriously looking at right now.

"In no order, I'm looking at Oklahoma, California, Arizona State, Alabama and UCLA," Smallwood said. "I haven't set up any official visits but I'm going to try and do that soon. I might try and get to Alabama and Oklahoma when (Michiah) Quick goes on his visits, that would be great.

"I'm going to the Cal- Ohio State game this weekend and that should be a lot of fun. I'm definitely going to take things slower this time around and do more research on all the schools. I won't commit until after my visits and that could be late in the year."
