Bruins Still Trying with Mixon

The Oakley (Calif.) Freedom running back, Joe Mixon, is still hearing from UCLA...

Oakley (Calif.) Freedom running back Joe Mixon (6-2, 212), took his first official visit over the weekend, not having to go far, visiting California.

And though he's been there numerous times, the trip was a good one for the five-star.

"It was pretty good, I had a lot of fun," said Mixon. "Bryce Treggs was my host and I hung out with Austin Harper and Jackson Bouza and Jeffrey Coprich."

Mixon saw the Bears play Ohio State and the atmosphere in Memorial Stadium left a positive impression.

"The student section was chanting my name a little, and the fans were yelling to me when we were walking out of the tunnel," said Mixon. "That was pretty cool."

Mixon said he did get to see some new things on the visit.

"They pretty much got to show me everything in the school and the facilities and some things they wanted to show me on my unofficial, but they couldn't, so on the official we got to see more things. It was nice," said Mixon.

But despite all the tours and sights he saw, it was his time with the players that impacted him the most.

"To be honest, the highlight was just hanging around the players," said Mixon. "When I was hanging around them, I was just real comfortable and had a lot of fun. Basically how I felt was I was treated like their family and I fit in."

He also got a chance to talk with the academic advisers in Berkeley.

"They were just saying how I can succeed in the classroom, and how they'll help me succeed," said Mixon. "They provide advisers and tutors and they were saying they really want me to walk out of there with a degree."

Mixon had some one-on-one time with head coach Sonny Dykes and running backs coach Pierre Ingram.

"I had a great time with Coach Dykes," said Mixon. "He's a great person, who's down to earth and someone who's going to take the time to talk to you. Coach Ingram, pretty much the same thing. We have the best relationship and he's the dude."

Mixon said the visit made him certain he would be taking all five.

"It was my first one but I'm definitely going to take all five," said Mixon.

He's scheduled to visit Florida this weekend, but that trip may not happen.

"I'm not sure yet if I'm visiting Florida," said Mixon. "The coach was just saying that they wanted me to come at the end of the season instead, and I can't at the end of the year, so if I don't go this weekend, I probably won't visit."

Mixon, though, is set to visit Oklahoma on October 4th, the weekend the Sooners play TCU and he'll be at Wisconsin the following week when the Badgers host Northwestern.

"I don't know where my fifth one will be to yet," said Mixon. "I'm leaving that one open."

Mixon said that Cal and Oklahoma have been recruiting him the hardest and from outside his top five, UCLA and Washington are still trying with him.

"I have my top five, but if I don't take the Florida trip, I may make a new one," said Mixon. "I'm going to take all of my visits before the Army Game and I'm deciding then."
