Taua Starting Official Visits

Lompoc (Calif.) defensive lineman Ainuu Taua will take his first official visit of the year this weekend when he heads to Pullman to check out Washington State...

Ainuu Taua is the state's No. 1 defensive tackle prospect and No. 2 in the entire West region. He's a very explosive player, does a great job using his hands and plays with great technique. He was one of the standouts at The Opening over the summer.

On the recruiting front, Taua plans to take all five of his official visits and will take No. 1 this weekend.

"He leaves for Washington State tomorrow," Lompoc coach Andrew Jones said. "He's looking forward to it and they definitely have a shot here. His older brother played at Nevada when Jim Mastro was there so there's a nice comfort level already with the staff.

"Washington State has played well this year and had a nice win over USC. They're an up and coming program and the coaches are doing a nice job recruiting Ainuu right now."

Following Washington State, Taua has two other visits lined up.

"He's going to Oklahoma (Oct. 5) and to Ole Miss (Oct. 19)," Jones said. "Those should both be incredible visits for him. Ole Miss is playing LSU and the atmosphere at the game should be pretty crazy.

"Oklahoma has been recruiting Ainuu hard for a while now so he's excited about that trip as well. UCLA is right there at the top for him of course but he's not sure if he'll take an official visit since he can go up there any time. He might leave that last visit open in case a new school comes along.

"Right now, I'm not sure when he wants to commit. It could be at one of the All-American games or closer to Signing Day. Just whenever he's ready, he'll go ahead and do it but I know he's looking forward to all these visits first."
