UCLA Evaluating White

2016 Springhill (La.) North Webster running back Devin White has already heard from UCLA--and he's reciprocating the interest...

UCLA's fast start hasn't gone unnoticed in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, home to super sophomore Devin White (ranked 153rd in the Scout Ultimate 300).

"I've been watching UCLA," White said. "They're doing nice. They're in a spread offense which I like a lot, too, because you get to read - as a running back - a lot more than in a two-back formation. I think I could fit in well there. I have the speed to do it.

"I haven't really talked one-on-one with UCLA. I need to call their coaches. I've exchanged some Facebook messages with them, where they said they were evaluating me and liked my highlight tape."

Is there a legit shot that White will leave the south for college?

"Yes," he replied, "if I feel comfortable and feel that I fit in well at that school. I just want to go to the college that will make me the best person off the field and help me be successful.

"I've never been to the West Coast yet, but I talk to Mykel Jones every day and I think he wants to go somewhere where we'd be a dual package. That's something I'd never really thought about before."

White, who has collected offers from LSU, Alabama and the Ragin' Cajuns in Lafayette, returned a punt approximately 80 yards in his team's homecoming win Friday.

He plays running back and linebacker for North Webster, a Class 3A school located a stone's throw from the Arkansas state line in Springhill.
