VIDEO: Benenoch on Starting

Caleb Benenoch talks about getting the start at right tackle, how he thinks he performed, and what Cal threw at the offensive line...

Caleb Benenoch after Cal:

On playing Stanford next week:
I can't wait for that challenge. We're looking forward to a challenge, they'll be a good team. Everyone knows how I feel about us.

On his first start:
I felt good about it. Again, there is stuff to work on but from a communication standpoint, I think we did a much better job than last week. From a technique standpoint, we did a much better job than we did last week.

On if the Cal defense was trying to test them on the right side:
Yeah, we knew it was going to come. But we prepared really hard this week and I think we picked it up for the most part. I don't think we had any troubles picking up their blitz.

On the struggles in the run game:
I feel like they made an emphasis on trying to stop the run today, to force us to pass so they could do their blitzes. The kind of things that affect us. At the end of the day, we need to get better because we're going to play tougher opponents. We need to get better at it and just impose our will on people regardless of what they're trying to do.

On improving blitz pickup:
We were a lot more prepared for it. We worked our asses off this week. We don't want to be the weak link of our team, we want to be the strength of our team. We don't look at it as we're true freshman, we look at it as we're UCLA football players. And there is a standard that comes with this team, and we have to meet it. And I think we met that standard today and we're going to push the bar up. We want to be great, and that's what we're striving for. We're not going to make excuses for it.

On if he thinks the gameplan will be similar:
Yeah, we do. At the same time, we're going to prepare for it. And we're going to be ready when they bring it and we'll keep working our asses off.
