VIDEO: Mazzone on Defensive Package

Offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone talks about the defensive package UCLA is using on offense and his concerns about the running game...

Noel Mazzone:

On what's in the bag of tricks for Washington:
Hopefully a couple of first downs. The kids worked hard this week. It's a short week. Brett looks pretty sharp this week. I'm excited about him. I always like when he says 'oh, I kind of like that play.' Every once in a while he says that, so that's a good sign.

On Hundley and Myles Jack motioning to keep their package in:
Wouldn't you? If I was Brett? All I have to do is hand it off and watch and not make the plays. It was fun. All those kids did a good job with it. All those defensive kids, Cassius, Jordan, Kenny, we got Brandon in there and Keenan, so that was fun.

On getting Jordon James back:
I hope so, because we're getting kind of thin at that spot. I don't know if we're looking for the next guy on defense to play running back. Hopefully, Jordon, I know he's working hard every day to get back out here, he's a tough kid. And he's doing everything he's supposed to be doing and when he's ready I'm sure he'll be back out there.

On if he's advocating to move Myles Jack to running back fulltime:
The guy is an unbelievable linebacker. Right now, the focus is just Washington. What we can put together when we get together and play those guys.

On Hundley's quick start:
I think he's getting comfortable with the front, the guys up front. It's not like it happens all the time, we think the world is going to end when the quarterback has a bad game, it's all part of the process and the curve of becoming a good quarterback. And what I was proud of Brett was that he came back with a little bit more resolve. He's always had that but he came back, all the kids on offense came back and were more focused and had more resolve with things we need to do right. Then there is also the learning curve of having young guys in the front. I thought the last two weeks, I've been really happy with the way Brett has been running the offense. He's been playing football, he's been playing the game and it's been fun to watch.

On Hundley's security blanket:
Shaq is having a good year for us, so I'm happy with him and all those guys that we've got. You'll have to ask Brett, but I know if I'm Brett, I'm looking for number one.
