Leiataua Lands UCLA Offer

Compton (Calif.) Dominguez defensive lineman Uriah Leiataua said he grew up a UCLA fan and the athlete landed an offer from his childhood favorite on Wednesday...

Uriah Leiataua is one of the top defensive end prospects in the region. At 6-4, 240 pounds, he has a solid frame that will hold a lot more weight down the line. He'll have the ability to move inside or stay outside in college and should continue to improve his overall athleticism as well.

UCLA DL coach Angus McClure went out to see Leiataua last Friday and obviously liked what he saw as the lineman landed an offer from the Bruins earlier today.

"The crazy thing is I thought I had a horrible game," Leiataua said. "It was one of the worst games I've ever played. I couldn't do anything but I'm glad he saw something in me to offer. I'm just so grateful to the man above for everything and this offer means a lot to me. UCLA is the school I grew up rooting for when I was little.

"The Tevaga brothers, Shannon and Sonny are my adopted older brothers so my whole family always rooted for UCLA. I've been around the school and the campus a lot and I'm very comfortable there. I'm going through this process with a business approach but being a fan of a school growing up is obviously going to stick with you."

Leiataua is by no means a Bruin lock and he still plans to go through the recruiting process.

"It's going to going come down to what system I feel I fit in the best," Leiataua said. "I want to know what defense fits me the best and how I'll be used. My overall comfort level with the school will be big too but I think I can be comfortable anywhere.

"I feel I'll be able to adapt to any atmosphere so it's going to be my overall feel for the football team and the academics of course. I'm taking my official visit to Stanford next week for the California game and can't wait for that. Stanford is the offer that had my mom super excited when it came in. I love the coaches there and their style of play as well.

"I've already been to Wisconsin and Washington State and I want to take an official visit to Yale as well. I was actually supposed to visit Yale next week but I wanted to visit Stanford during the season and next week is the only available week left. I haven't decided on my other visits but I do want to take all five and then I should be ready to make my decision."
