Prospect Preview: Playoffs

We look at the playoff matchups featuring UCLA commits and targets...

Game of the Week:  Lompoc vs. West Hills Chaminade
Lompoc is led by talented defensive line prospect Ainuu Taua, one of the top tackle prospects in the region. Taua is very strong, quick off the ball and has violent hands. The Braves can run the football have three backs with over 800 yards led by junior Derrick Portis. Portis has rushed 1,456 yards and 21 touchdowns this season and will be one of the fastest players on the field. A.J. Florez has rushed for 1,381 yards and 19 touchdowns and junior Austin Hayes might have the most upside in the group rushing for 846 yards and 13 touchdowns while averaging over 12 yards a carry. Chaminade has a balanced offense with star power all over. Quarterback Brad Kaaya is a Miami commit and one of the top five signal callers in the region. Donovan Lee is a dynamic play maker at running back, receiver and corner and his sophomore brother Dymond Lee already has an offer from Miami. Junior left tackle Bar Milo is a 2015 Scout 300 member with offers from California, Miami, Nebraska and Washington and safety Jojo McIntosh is a UCLA commit and one of the top defensive backs in the state.

Long Beach Poly vs. Santa Ana Mater Dei
Poly is surging late as they always do and is led by national top 10 prospect Juju Smith. Smith will line up at safety, receiver and even some running back and is a major difference maker on both sides of the ball. Junior Iman Marshall is a 5-star recruit in the 2015 class and will bounce between safety and corner. In an amazing stat, Marshall went the whole season without giving up a single catch. After battling injuries, safety Elijah Moody, a Nevada commitment, has come on strong and can play the run and the pass. The Poly defensive line is very tough led by tackle Jason Fao and 2015 Scout 300 member Joseph Wicker. Quarterback Tai Tiedamann has a live arm and Christian Pabico is an underrated receiver target. Mater Dei has four-star cornerback Jonathan Lockett anchoring their secondary.

Bellflower St. John Bosco vs. Mission Hills Alemany
Bosco has an embarrassment of riches with 13 players holding Div I offers. Jaleel Wadood is the No. 3 safety in the west and is one of the most dynamic players in the region. He visited UCLA officially last weekend. Naijiel Hale, the No. 4 corner in the region, has committed to Arizona and rush end Malik Dorton, among the state's top pass rushers, has committed to USC. Wide out Shay Fields recently switched his commitment from Boise State to USC and cornerback Chandler Hawkins has committed to Air Force. The top recruit on the team is massive offensive lineman Damien Mama. Mama is the nation's top guard prospect and has his choice of any school in the country. Jacob Tuioti-Mariner has gained 20 pounds since last season and has established himself as one of the region's premier defensive lineman and UCLA is taking a long look at him and talented quarterback Josh Rosen is the No. 2 signal caller in the 2015 class and is UCLA's top target in 2015.  Alemany has 2015 four-star receiver Desean Holmes, who has a UCLA offer.

Corona Centennial vs. Upland
After a slow start, Upland rallied to win 8 of their last nine game. Junior quarterback Tyler Hilinski has made big strides this season and put up very solid numbers throwing for over 2,400 yards and 25 touchdowns. Junior safety Kameron Powell has played well all season and has established himself as one of the state's top defensive backs. Yet another junior, Elijah Jones has made a smooth transition to corner and had a very impressive season. Virginia commit Jeff Farrar leads the team with four interceptions from his safety position and receiver Trevor Wright has proven to be close to uncoverable with over 1,200 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. Corona Centennial has UCLA running back target Tre Watson leading their offense.

Gardena Serra vs. La Canada St. Francis
Serra looks to win their fourth CIF-SS title in the past five years with all the players, eight with UCLA offers, including committed receiver Jordan Lasley, as well as five-star cornerback Adoree Jackson, four-star linebacker Dwight Williams, three-star safety Glenn Ihenacho, 2015 five-star linebacker John Houston, 2015 four-star defensive lineman Rasheem Green and 2015 four-star running back Malik Roberson (who is out for the year with an ACL injury) as well 2016 safety Brandon Burton. The Cavs are the No. 1 seed in the CIF-SS Western Division. St. Francis, coached by former UCLA quarterback Jim Bonds, is led by quarterback Ty Gangi.  These two teams met at the end of the regular season, with the Cavs winning in a rout.

El Cerrito vs. Moraga Campolindo
El Cerrito is led by UCLA commit Adarius Pickett, who's shining at both running back and cornerback for El Cerrito and after losing in the CIF-NCS finals a year ago, they face Campolindo, who knocked them off earlier this year, in the section semifinals.

Los Angeles View Park vs. Los Angeles Torres
Led by newest UCLA verbal Cameron Griffin, View Park is the top seed in the CIF-City Section playoffs and face Torres in their semifinal matchup.

Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman vs. Las Vegas (Nev.) Palo Verde
The nation's top tight end in the 2015 class, Alize Jones, committed to UCLA last weekend and he'll be back in action for the Gaels this weekend against Palo Verde in the state semifinals.  The Gaels are gunning for their fifth straight state title.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian vs. Tampa (Fla.) Christian
Newest UCLA commit Victor Alexander, a 2015 linebacker and some of the state's top underclassmen in Kevin Toliver, Jeff Holland, Jalen Buie, and Kendrick Norton visit Tampa Christian.

Carmel (Ind.) vs. Warren Central (Ind.)
Headlining Carmel is wide receiver Austin Roberts, who committed to UCLA this summer and they'll face Warren next Saturday in the 6A State Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Auburn (Ala.) vs. Mobile (Ala.) McGill-Toolen
Auburn is led on defense by UCLA commit Antreal Allen in the secondary and one of their chief linebacker targets, Rashaan Evans and they face McGill-Toolen in the fourth round of the playoffs.

Houston (Texas) Lamar vs. Pearland (Texas)
UCLA commit John Plattenburg and Texas commit John Bonney lead unbeaten Lamar in the 5A playoffs.

Galena Park (Texas) North Shore vs. Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair
Galena Park (Texas) North Shore with UCLA commit Najee Toran take on Cy-Fair in a third round playoff game.

Seasons Complete
Compton Centennial cornerback Denzel Fisher has completed his senior season.  Elk Grove Cosumnes Oaks receiver Alex Van Dyke has completed his senior season. Pomona Diamond Ranch offensive lineman Kammy Delp has completed his senior season.  Sarasota (Fla.) Booker running back Marlon Mack has completed his senior season.
