Smith Talks UCLA-USC Game

Long Beach Poly (Calif.) athlete John "Juju" Smith was in attendance at the USC-UCLA game over the weekend and shared his thoughts on both programs going forward.

Sometimes a win in a rivalry game has an impact on a recruit's opinion, but in many cases prospects already have a good idea where they want to go or what school they're leaning to and the actual outcome of the game doesn't do a great deal to change that.

JuJu Smith has already taken four of his official visits and scheduled his 5th and final visit to USC for (Jan 17), his childhood favorite. UCLA will get an unofficial trip but the bigger question is, did the Bruins win over the Trojans do anything to change Smith's opinion of the two local schools.

"USC is still a growing team, but I still like them," Smith said. "Jim Mora is a great coach and there's no question UCLA outplayed USC in that game. It doesn't really change anything for me though, I still feel the same way about both teams, I have interest in both.

"I'm still taking my official visit to USC and hopefully they have a coach in place by then. I would love Jon Gruden but I've heard good things about Chris Petersen too. Right now, I'm staying open to everyone on my list and I'm going to play some home visits real soon. I'm sure all the schools I visited, Alabama, Oregon, Notre Dame and Ohio State will be coming in plus USC and UCLA."

Smith said there's no timetable in his decision but it would likely be close to Signing Day.

"My trip to USC is pretty late in the process," Smith said. "Once that visit is over, I'll sit back with my family and try and figure out the best place for me. I may just wait until Signing Day but if I know sooner, I'll go ahead and do it but I definitely won't rush anything."
