"I heard about it from my dad," Jones said. "My dad talked to (Patterson) Coach (Tommy) Minton. Tulane is, of course, a great academic institution. Their football program is on the upswing. They won seven this year.
"They're balanced on offense and throw the ball a lot. I feel like that's a pretty good offense for my position."
Jones plans summer visits to three out-of-state schools.
He pointed out some offseason goals, as well.
"I know I'm going to train with Coach Duke (Rousse) in New Orleans," he said. "I want to get my 40 down to a 4.40. I also want to work on my route-running."
Jones is concentrating exclusively on football - giving up his hoops career, as least for his sophomore season and the summer.
"I'm not playing AAU basketball this year," he said. "I want to get my football fundamentals down pat for next year. We're losing a lot of senior leadership, and I'm going to take on a leadership role to help get our team together and take us to the next level."
He racked up approximately 75 receptions for 1,300 yards and 20-plus overall touchdowns for Patterson, which reached the 3A quarterfinals. Jones tacked on 400 rushing yards and accounted for two TDs via the ground.
