Lockett Opens Up Recruitment

As expected, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei defensive back Jonathan Lockett de-committed from Washington earlier today and will re-open the recruiting process. Unexpectedly, he said he's not sewn up for USC...

When former Washington coach Steve Sarkisian left to take over at USC, it seemed like just a matter of time before Jonathan Lockett opened up the process. When the Trojans, Lockett's childhood favorite, offered him a scholarship just a few days ago, the writing was definitely on the wall.

"I've decided to de-commit and I'm opening my recruitment up," Lockett said. "I just don't know anyone at Washington any more and I have to hear from anyone since Coach Petersen took over there. All the coaches that were there that I knew, are now at USC. The main reason I committed to UW was because of my relationship with the DB coach, Keith Heyward and he's at USC now."

While you have to assume the Trojans are in a very good spot for Lockett right now, the corner said he's going to give a few other schools a look as well.

"I want to check out UCLA, Washington State and Arizona State," Lockett said. "Coach Lorig from ASU actually came in for a home visit tonight. He talked about the academic opportunities at ASU and talked about their defense.

"He said they they're losing some corners and they want me to come up and take a visit. We talked about their depth chart and he said it's all about competing at ASU, the best players are going to play. It would be cool to take a visit, I need to talk it over with my parents first and figure it out.

"Coach Martin at UCLA and I have been talking and we have a good relationship. He asked me how I feel about UCLA and I said I was interested. Same thing with Washington State and I'm sure they want me to visit as well. I'm not going to rush anything, I'm just going to play this out and when I feel I'm ready, I'll go ahead and commit."
