But there might be another running back that could beat him to it.
UCLA has started to aggresssively recruit running back prospect Nathan Starks. In fact, Starks is expected to call UCLA Head Coach Jim Mora tonight and it's believed that Mora could very well offer Starks and Starks could commit. Starks was previously at Las Vegas Bishop Gorman but is currently at Englewood (Col.) Cherry Creek, and ranked the #20-ranked safety in the nation. This is what Greg Biggins had to say about him: "We actually had rated Starks higher than Mixon last spring. He's a very talented player and his off-the-field issues were the only reason why his rating dropped. He already has a good relationship with UCLA running backs coach Kennedy Polamalu and is the type of big, physical back UCLA really needs. Former Servite coach Troy Thomas, now at Crespi, told me two years ago after Bishop Gorman buried them that Starks was the best player they faced all season."
Starks was asked to leave Bishop Gorman for some off-the-field and out-of-the-classroom issues. It's uncertain if he's in good academic standing but many close to him vouch for his character.
The plan was for Starks to officially visit UCLA in January before being offered, but the phone call tonight could precipitate an offer from Mora.
***UPDATE: Starks committed Saturday night to Jim Mora.*** More Update below...
As we reported on the message board, UCLA has received another verbal commitment this afternoon, but we can't divulge the name of the prospect. He's a four-star prospect at a position of need.
We're actually hearing, too, that UCLA is locked in to get another commitment next week.
And of course, it's fully expected that Kammy Delp, the Pomona (Calif.) Diamond Ranch offensive line prospect, will verbally commit Sunday during the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl.
***There is now another new commitment to add to the list. At this time we can't go public with the name, but this one is also a four-star prospect.****
