Commitment Analysis: Zach Whitley

Scout.com provides a rundown on what UCLA gets with the Texas linebacker...

LB Zach Whitley

North Shore HS | TX

Team: West
Region: Midlands
Recruiting: UCLA

Film Eval: He is a bit of a throw-back in the sense that he plays hard and is a player who is present for nearly every snap throughout the entire game. He has a very good body for a linebacker prospect, still looking rangy at a true 6-2 and 220. He could easily put on 15 to 20 pounds of good weight. He moves well laterally, but could probably improve his capability of dropping into coverage. He's excellent moving forward and to his side in pursuit. He has very good instincts, is one of those linebackers that can sniff out seams and slice through defenses. He projects either outside or inside.

Army Eval: Whitley came in to the game as a highly rated player and showed that he deserved his lofty ranking. He is a more versatile linebacker than I even gave him credit for previously. He played pretty much inside all the time in high school and showed that he has a nose for the football, but got the chance to show in the practices and in the game that he can also play outside linebacker as well. He is best in run support and coming down and blowing up RBs, but he can cover a little bit as well. because he does not speak with the media all that much I think there was a perception out there that he was not that outgoing, but he is a pretty well spoken individual and is thoughtful with his responses to questions directed at him.

Rankings Analysis: Like where he is rated currently. He is a Top 75 player in the country and that 55-75 range fits him pretty well. He can be a difference maker in college.
