Busy Month for Solomon Thomas

The five-star defensive end, Solomon Thomas, has a top five, and he'll visit three of them on successive weekends...

All-star games are usually conducive for individual players to dominate.

In the US Army All-American Bowl, Coppell (Tex.) defensive end Solomon Thomas sure came close. Thomas recorded three stops, all for loss. But he was more than that; ask anyone in attendance if they remember a guy who was playing lights out, his name will likely be mentioned.

"I played okay. I could have used my moves more effectively to come off the edge better," Thomas said. "And been better with my hands. But I played as hard as I could. It's been great and an honor and a blessing to play with all of these great players in the nation. I learned a lot and it's been a great experience.

"I had fun."

It sure seemed like most of the guys on the West team were having fun, especially after coming away with a 28-6 victory over the East. The 6-foot-3, 256-pound Thomas was the second-leading tackler on a West team that completely dominated the match-up.

Now it's back to school and back to business for Thomas. One of the most sought-after players in the country, the five-star defender has already named a Top 5, which includes Stanford, Arkansas, Ohio State UCLA and Texas

The next month will be non-stop travel as Thomas will officially visit Stanford, Arkansas and Ohio State back-to-back weekends in the month of January. Texas has been in the news quite a bit lately with the coaching change, and Thomas would like check out this option as well.

"I am just going to take a trip back to Texas and see the new coaching staff. Other than that, I have some officials in January and that is about it," Thomas said. "I like (newly hired Texas coach) Charlie Strong a lot and I think he is a great coach. He has done a lot at Louisville and seems like he has great character. I can't wait to meet him."
