Analysis & Video: QB Visiting This Weekend

We look at the athletic, lefty Texas quarterback prospect -- his talent and ability -- and UCLA's connection and recruitment to him...

Prospect: Aaron Sharp
Height/Weight: 6-3, 190
High School: Houston (Tex.) Summer Creek
Ranking: #52 Quarterback for 2014

Recruitment:
Sharp is currently verbally committed to Kansas State. He was previously committed to Utah, but the prevailing sentiment was that his family wanted him closer to home. It's now known that he's re-considering his K-State commitment.

UCLA Involvement:
UCLA's quarterback recruiting has been an interesting endeavor for 2014.

UCLA needed a quarterback for 2014 to, at least, maintain quarterback depth over the next several seasons, but also provide one more potential option to win the starting job once Brett Hundley leaves after next season.

But UCLA has struggled some to really find the guy. After it missed out on Kyle Allen, the #1 quarterback prospect in the country, back in the summer, UCLA really didn't move on and concentrate on another quarterback. Others west coast quarterback prospects, like Manny Wilkins and Brad Kaaya, then, committed elsewhere (to Arizona State and Miami, respectively).

It wasn't until fall when UCLA began to recruit Kaaya -- the West Hills Chaminade prospect -- seriously. It has been thought he would flip to UCLA at different times, but it's looking less and less likely as National Signing Day approaches (Wednesday, Feb. 5th).

UCLA, then, has looked elsewhere, and that "elsewhere" was Texas.

UCLA Offensive Coordinator Noel Mazzone and Quarterbacks Coach Taylor Mazzone have a connection to Sharp so they showed interest. We've heard Sharp is interested in UCLA because of how Hundley has looked in the offense, since Sharp is a similar athlete. That has been the major factor that has him reconsidering his commitment to K-State.

Evaluation:
Sharp is an athletic dual-threat prospect, a lefty, who runs a 21.6 200 meters, and has thrown for over 9,000 yards and 93 touchdowns in his high school career. He doesn't have a pure throwing motion, but he's very accurate and has decent arm strength, timing and touch. Scout has him ranked a three-star prospect and the #53 quarterback in the nation.

With the way Mazzone has adapted UCLA's offense to fit Hundley's running ability, it would be a very good fit also for Sharp.

Sharp, too, is an intelligent kid with a 4.0 GPA., which always helps in terms of quarterbacks.
