I'm hearing that it's going very well with Budda Baker, the prospect from Bellevue (Wash.), on his official visit. A source close to him thought he could commit today. There is concern with distance and his mother's health.
UCLA has not given up on Bryce Dixon, the tight end from Ventura St. Bonaventure. UCLA and Jim Mora have an in-home visit with him Tuesday and will try to get him to follow through on his official visit next weekend. It's thought that the commitment of 2015 quarterback Ricky Town, his teammate, is probably another factor swaying him toward USC.
Darrel Williams, the running back from Louisiana, won't visit UCLA this weekend, and will stick with his commitment to LSU. It was a longshot to get him out of Louisiana and away from his family.
In regard to Demetrius Knox, the Texas offensive lineman: Last week he indicated to the UCLA coaches he was leaning toward UCLA, but family pressure got him to stick with his commitment to Ohio State.
Michiah Quick, the wide receiver from Fresno, is definitely an Oklahoma lean at this point, but he is very enamored of UCLA Wide Receiver Coach Eric Yarber, so we'll see if the Bruins can turn him around next weekend on his official visit.
UCLA's chances with Juju Smith, the talented prospect from Long Beach Poly, continue to improve. Long Beach Poly sources have told us that Mora and some UCLA staff will have an in-home visit with Smith tonight.
The chances with Adoree Jackson, the elite talent from Gardena Serra, are about the same. Jim Mora is supposed to see Jackson at the high school Monday, but I would bet that if Jackson doesn't show the coach and UCLA some love the recruitment might be over.
The chances with Damien Mama, the St. John Bosco offensive lineman, are about the same. From a UCLA standpoint, too, it would be uncertain how much he'd be able to contribute next season as a true freshman, give UCLA's OL depth chart, and then he'd go on his mission after one year. The concern would then be how he would be physically after the two-year mission, given that there is a weight issue.
Things are looking good for Rashaan Evans. That's all I'll say. But UCLA is going to have a tough battle on its hands all this week trying to get him to hold to visiting unofficially Thursday.
Solomon Thomas, the five-star defensive end from Texas, won't unofficially visit this weekend, according to sources. Everything points to it being a UCLA/Stanford battle, with Arkansas running third, and the smart money still being on Stanford.
Josh Rosen will be on UCLA's campus at about 11:00 a.m.
