2015 Granite Bay (Calif.) middle linebacker Cameron Smith is no stranger to college coaches drop by his school, but Michigan's recent presence was a very pleasant surprise.

"I was very surprised to hear that Michigan was interested in me when they came to up to my school last Tuesday," Smith told GoBlueWolverine. "Michigan has been on my mind since their visit."

While it's clear the Wolverines' courtship of the four-star middle linebacker is relatively new, Smith's knowledge of the Maize & Blue is not.

"Michigan has a great tradition and environment," stated Smith. "They have over 100,000 in the Big House every game. It is a big deal up there. They are a college town. I really like the fan base, and I could see myself wearing the Maize and Blue. I have watched Michigan on TV and I have played NCAA football with Desmond Howard on the cover, so I do know about Michigan."

In addition to Michigan there are a host of other BCS programs showing a great deal of interest, with much of that attention coming from his home region.

Said Smith, "I know that Arizona State, USC, UCLA and Utah have been by my school. I have visited UCLA multiple times and have a very good relationship with (UCLA LB coach) Coach Ulbrich."

The Golden State star just wants to have the opportunity to be around a good program that will nurture his talents.

"I feel good about the offers from the elite programs," said Smith. "I am looking for a college that has good tradition and atmosphere. I would like to have a strong relationship with my position coach and the strength & conditioning coach so that I can be the best I can be."

Don't look for a decision on which school that is for quite some time. For the moment the talented youngster is content taking his time, letting all of the attention sink in, and seeing what further attention comes his way.
