Transfer Potentially Eyes UCLA

Former LSU linebacker Lorenzo Phillips is going to spend a year at a JC, and then will look at potential landing spots, with UCLA on his short list...

Lorenzo Phillips will join former LSU teammate Jeryl Brazil at defending national champion junior college East Mississippi next season.

"I could have left LSU and gone immediately to a non-SEC school, but I wanted to do it differently," said Phillips, the nation's 24th-ranked outside linebacker as a senior at Patterson.

"I didn't want to sit out a year, and I wanted to work on academics, so I came here (to Scooba, Miss.). We have ballers. It's one of the best junior colleges."

Phillips is looking at several four-year schools down the road, including Georgia, Florida, USC, UCLA and Ole Miss.

He was committed to Florida and Texas A&M at certain junctures during his recruitment.

The 6-2, 220-pounder sees himself in a 3-4 scheme.

He'd like to play a similar role as Jarvis Jones or Von Miller.

Phillips played in nine games as a redshirt freshman at LSU and collected four total tackles.
