VIDEO: Powell on Decision Making

Shooting guard Norman Powell talks about his improvement as a decision maker and the differences in defensive scheme this season...

Norman Powell:

On his improving shooting:
I feel like it's better shot selection and my confidence. I've been getting in the gym more lately and working on my shot and it's paying off.

On shot selection:
Shot selection is a big deal, getting in the flow of good shots. I read what the defense is giving me and I make my decisions, it's a big part of basketball and it's coming easy now.

On recognizing defenses:
Being able to read a defense is always a big key to making a play. I saw the lane that was given to me, free myself from the man guarding me, and making the right play is always good.

On being ranked again:
We just want to focus on taking it one game at a time. We're happy to be back in the Top 25 and we're playing great basketball as a team and we're trying to move forward. I feel like things are clicking for us. We're focused on the next game and cleaning some mistakes up.

On the defense improving:
Coach Howland was big on stops, but his offense was more half court. The defense creates opportunities. This year we're a lot more help-oriented and it shows in the passing lanes. Especially this year with the type of style we play.

On when the help defense improved:
I think people on our team just started buying into that. We have to stop easy layups on baskets.

On the Pac-12 lead being in striking distance:
We're right where we want to be. Hopefully a lot more things go our way. Anybody can beat anybody because our league is real competitive right now.
