Former Colorado and Arizona assistant Mike Tuiasosopo has been hired as the new coach on the football staff, according to sources.
Tuiasosopo will come on board primarily as a special teams coach but will assist with the linebackers as well.
Tuiasosopo grew up in the Los Angeles area and has always recruited the area well, and is regarded in high school recruiting circles as a very respected name. In terms of coaching, he is regarded as a pass rush expert, and we've heard that he was particularly impressive discussing potential improvements in the pass rush during his interview. With the amount that UCLA uses outside linebackers as defensive ends in nickel, his expertise could prove very useful.
We've heard also that he was generally very impressive in his interview and has already shown that he would mesh well with the rest of the staff.
Mora interviewed Tony White, Scott White, John Baxter, and intern Phil Austin, but in the end, Tuiasosopo was deemed the best fit.
