Lawal Hearing from Bruins

The Temecula (Calif.) Chaparral linebacker, Malik Lawal, may camp with UCLA...

Temecula (Calif.) Chaparral outside linebacker Malik Lawal (6-1, 224), has three Pac-12 offers and much of his communication is with schools from the same conference.

California was the first to offer Lawal, then Washington State and finally Arizona State last week.

"Arizona State was recruiting me and my teammates really heavily," said Lawal.

Aside from the three offers, Lawal is hearing from Missouri and Fresno State as well as a half-dozen Pac-12 programs.

"I'm also talking with Arizona, Colorado, Washington, UCLA, USC and Oregon State," said Lawal. "I'd like to get an offer from the nearby schools, USC and UCLA and want to hear more from Stanford. I'm talking with Arizona a lot now."

Lawal said he's grown up a Stanford fan.

"I've always been a Stanford kid," said Lawal. "But the last time I talked to them was a year ago. But I'd love to hear more from Stanford."

Oregon is the school he says he watches the most now, with two former Chaparral players, Talmadge Jackson and Trevor Fox also having played at Oregon.

Lawal said the two Los Angeles schools have also long had his attention.

"I'm talking with both schools, and I want to take a trip to each of them," said Lawal. "I'd love for them to offer."

Lawal will camp with USC this summer and said he may also camp with UCLA.

Nationally, Texas and LSU are programs that Lawal said he'd like to hear from.

A 3.8 student, Lawal said he wants to major in sports medicine in college.

"All of my life, my mom has been on me about academics so that's one of the big things I'm looking for in a college," said Lawal. "I'm big in to studying sports medicine."

Lawal said he plans to take the SAT in May.

Camp-wise, Lawal will be at the Los Angeles NFTC on Sunday and then will be playing with defending champion AIGA in the Pylon Elite 7on7 in Las Vegas the following weekend.
