Bolu Olorunfunmi took an unofficial visit to UCLA last month and was just offered by the Bruins two weeks ago. The athlete said he wanted to make an early decision and decided to get it done moments ago.
"I'm a Bruin," Olorunfunmi said. "I've developed a really good relationship with the coaching staff there and I know it's where I want to be. I was planning to wait a little longer and see what else came around but the more I thought about it, I knew no one was going to beat out UCLA so I wanted to go ahead and lock in my spot.
"I know it's early but this way, I can start to develop better relationships with the coaching staff. I really like Coach Mora a lot as well as Coach Polamalu, the RB coach. He's a great guy and a great coach and I'm really going to enjoy playing for him."
Olorunfunmi had a big junior season earning 2nd team all-state underclass honors from CalHiSports after rushing for 2,344 yards and 24 touchdowns against a very tough schedule. He rushed for 258 yards and two touchdowns in the Central Section Div I Championship game against Bakersfield and could be the most physical back in the state.
"I think I'm a complete back that can do everything," Olorunfunmi said. "I know some people see me as just a power back and I can do those things too but I can run outside, catch the football and run away from people.
"When Coach Mora first offered me, he told me I'm the kind of back he's looking for and that really meant a lot to me. They have shown me a lot of love and I can tell they really want me. I like the offense and I think I can come in there and play early as well. They need a big, power back so it's just a great all around fit plus you can't really beat the academics. I'm very excited about this decision and happy to call myself a Bruin."
2015 three-star Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North running back Bolu Olorunfunmi didn't take long to decide.
After being offered by UCLA last week after his MVP performance in the UnderArmour Camp, Olorunfunmi took just over a week to decide he wanted to be a Bruin, telling the coaching staff Tuesday evening.
The 6'0, 210-pound back gives UCLA the bigger, stronger back they've coveted since Kennedy Polamalu came on board in December. He was one of probably the two best backs at the Nike Camp this past weekend, along with four-star Malik Lovette.
Olorunfunmi gives UCLA their second running back-type commitment in the 2015 class, joining the versatile Jaason Lewis of Virginia Beach (Virg.) Ocean Lakes.
UCLA now has three commitments on the offensive side of the ball for 2015, with Lewis, Olorunfunmi, and five-star tight end Alize Jones all committed. They join three-star middle linebacker Victor Alexander to fill out the early four man class.
UCLA only has about 15 scholarships to give in the 2015 class, so the Bruins will likely be increasingly judicious in their pick-ups over the coming months.
