For the 6-0, 218-pound Thomas, who's as physical a linebacker as you'll find in the region, learning to hold up and not lay out guys on offense has been a test for him.
"It's hard at times, but I'm mostly laid back, so I let it slide and don't hit," said Thomas. "But once we get the pads back on, look out."
Thomas said he's gleaned a lot from the past couple of weeks.
"The camps have showed me where I'm at and where I need to improve," said Thomas.
Thomas has seven offers and they came in a relative flurry and he may not be done.
Thomas said three schools are standing out to him.
"UCLA, Arizona and Arizona State are my top three," said Thomas. "Those are definitely the ones standing out to me."
Thomas visited Arizona back in February and plans to visit UCLA and Arizona State in the near future.
"I'm going to try and get back out to Arizona State and I want to go to UCLA in the next week or two and then probably their Junior Day," said Thomas.
Thomas said he likes the Bruins because of their proximity to home.
"UCLA is a really good school and I like the coaches and it's close to home so my family can come and see me," said Thomas. "I'm hoping to take an unofficial visit there soon."
Thomas said he hopes to have a decision well before Signing Day.
"I may decide closer to the season, but I would like to take some official visits," said Thomas.
