Fertitta opted to spend his New Years in San Antonio with the Army Bowl, taking him to his roots in playing in the Eastbay Youth All-American Game a few years back.
By the time Fertitta gets to San Antonio, he'll likely have been committed somewhere for a couple of months.
"After I take some visits in the spring and go to some camps, I'll be ready to make a decision," said Fertitta. "It will definitely be before the season."
Fertitta has seven offers from FBS schools and an FCS offer, from Villanova, where his older brother Lorenzo plays.
Fertitta said a handful of other schools have been in contact with him.
"I talk to Nate the other day and tell Alize to put in a word for me with UCLA," said Fertitta.
Fertitta has plenty of former teammates to talk to about recruiting.
"I talk to Alize a lot about recruiting and Anu (Solomon), my brother, Ronnie (Stanley) and Shaq (Powell)," said Fertitta. "It's like a family. They all help us out and try to find us a place. We all want each other to have success."
The offer from the Irish, where Stanley starts on the offensive line, left a big impression.
"The offer from Notre Dame was definitely a big deal," said Fertitta. "I'm very excited that a team like Notre Dame offered me. I'm going to visit them this summer."
Fertitta also plans to visit USC, Boston College, Indiana and Villanova in the spring and summer.
For now, Fertitta isn't favoring anyone.
"Recruiting is completely open," said Fertitta. "During spring ball and when I take some visits, I'll narrow it down. The recruiting process has been crazy and non stop. I'm getting letters left and right and hit up on Twitter. It's been crazy. But it's been a lot of fun."
Fertitta said he's working to get up to between 195-200 and adding more weight so he can play strong safety at the next level.
