Johnson Plans Busy Spring

The San Leandro (Calif.) cornerback, Stephen Johnson, hopes to check out UCLA this spring...

Stephen Johnson is one of the most versatile and explosive athletes out West. He looked very good in Las Vegas last weekend and could play on either side of the ball in college.

"I want to be recruited as an athlete but I'm learning more to corner if I had to pick one side over the other," Johnson said. "I play quarterback for my H.S team but I'm being recruited as a receiver by a few schools. Most of them are saying athlete but that won't affect what school I choose, I'll play anywhere, I just want on the field."

On the recruiting front, Johnson has some visit plans for the spring/summer but isn't close to making a decision right now.

"Oregon was my latest offer and I'm going to try and visit out there in the spring for sure," Johnson said. "I also want to visit Duke, Mississippi State and UCLA. UCLA hasn't offered yet but they seem like they could be close and I like there program a lot.

"With Mississippi State, my father actually played for them in college so I want to get out there and see what it's like. I'm planning to take my official visits in the fall so I'm not close to making a decision right now. I want to go through the process, see where I'll fit in the best and then make a decision."
