Toailoa Earns USC Offer

2016 Rialto (Calif.) Carter middle linebacker Lokeni Toailoa earned an offer from USC this week, and it looks like the battle for his services could come down to the two Los Angeles schools...

USC offered five players out of the 2016 class early Saturday including elite linebacker prospect Lokeni Toailoa.

"I was at UCLA this morning watching their spring practice," Toailoa said. "My coach sent me a text while I was there to call Coach Sirmon (USC LB coach). I didn't even see the text until I was leaving the campus and then I waited until I got home and gave him a call as soon as I walked in the door.

"Coach told me they wanted me to be a Trojan and were offering me a scholarship. I had a feeling it might be coming but it was still a surprise, a very pleasant surprise for me. Everyone grows up wanting to play for USC and that's the school I grew up rooting for so it was definitely a big deal for me."

Being just a sophomore, Toailoa said he's not close to making an early decision.

"No, I'm going to play this out," Toailoa said. "I grew up on USC but I like UCLA a lot too. They have Kenny Clark as the starting nose guard there and he's a former teammate of mine. He loves it there and it's one thing to hear about a school from the coaches but to hear it from one of your peers, that means even more.

"Coach Ulbrich and Martin have been on me since I was a freshman so I have a great relationship with them. I have a great relationship with Coach Sirmon too. He has been on me since I was a freshman since he was recruiting me at Washington. He's a great guy and a great coach and I love both schools pretty equally right now."

Toailoa said he's not only interested in the two local schools, he's open to everyone.

"I'm going to do some summer camps and take some unofficial visits as well," Toailoa said. "I'm going to camp with Washington State and Colorado when they come out here to do their camps in the summer. I'm also going to camp with USC and UCLA and I'll continue to visit both schools a lot and watch as much spring practice as I can.

"Like I said, I'm planning to play this out and I'm not even thinking about a time frame for when I'll make a decision. I want to help my team win on the field this fall and hopefully more offers keep coming in for me. I'm not closing any doors to anyone but just want to see who is most interested before I even think about narrowing my list down. I have plenty of time for that."
