Alston To Camp at UCLA

2015 three-star Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure wide receiver Lavan Alston is flying a bit under the radar, but is hoping for a big camp season to earn coveted offers from the local schools...

Lavan Alston has easily been one of the most impressive receivers we've seen this spring. He has elite level speed and can run past a defense but has surprised us with his ability to catch the ball. He's also a very solid route runner and one of the most complete receivers in the region.

On the recruiting front, Alston has already visited California and will check out Oregon and Oregon State next week.

"The visit to Cal was great, I was there two weeks ago," Alston said. "I got to meet the entire coaching staff and tour the campus. I got to watch practice and the offense looked pretty good. They definitely like to throw the ball around so that was good to see.

"I think the academics stood out most for me. That was a big part of the visit and I really liked the coaching staff as well. I talked with Coach Dykes and Coach Likens and they're very cool guys so it was a great trip."

Next week, Alston will head to the NW.

"I'll be at Oregon April 24th and then Oregon State on the 25th and 26th," Alston said. "Oregon hasn't offered yet but I've been talking with them a lot. I talk with their WR coach, Matt Lubick a lot so I'm looking forward to the visit.

"Oregon State has offered and I talk with Coach Brennan, the WR coach all the time. I'm really looking forward to meeting him, he's a knowledgeable guy and a true players coach. Being there for a couple of days will be good, I'll get to see everything so I'm excited for these visits."

Alston camped with both USC and UCLA last summer and plans to do so again this summer.

"I'm in constant communication with USC right now so hopefully they offer," Alston said. "I talk with Coach Tuiasosopo and Coach Helton a lot and I've been to a spring practice. I'm not hearing much from UCLA right now but hopefully things will pick up later this spring with them too."

"Right now, I still feel like I'm a little under the radar. I'm not sure if it's because I've only been in California for a couple of years or not but I think my tape speaks for itself. I'm working hard on my game right now and I'm just trying to get better every time out."
