Strong Interest For Stanback

Trevor Stanback, 6-9 SO C West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade, is one of the more promising big men in the West Coast class of 2016. A skilled lefty, Stanback has a nice touch around the basket and he can face up out to about 15 feet. He's a fairly good shot blocker as well. His frame is a bit of a concern as there's a question as to how much weight/strength he'll be able to add, but he is a pretty good athlete and has good feet/hands.

I spoke with Stanback recently and asked about the schools that are recruiting him.

"UNLV, USC, North Carolina State, UCLA and Uconn have been the main ones," said Stanback. "They've all offered except for UCLA."

I asked Stanback if he has a sense for which schools have been recruiting him the hardest.

"UCLA and Uconn," said Stanback.

I asked Stanback what the Bruin staff has been telling him.

"They told me they really like me and that I'd be a good fit there," said Stanback.

Stanback has a favorable impression of Uconn.

"They really good," said Stanback. "I like the coach and how he runs things. They have good chemistry."

When asked if he has a favorite, Stanback replied, "No, I haven't really decided yet. I'm keeping my options open."

I asked Stanback about the factors that will be important to his choice.

"How the school is academically, because I really think education is important," said Stanback. "Someplace where I can fit in and have a good relationship with the coaches. Early playing time isn't really that important – as long as they give me a chance."

When asked if location will be important, Stanback said, "No, I'll really go anywhere."

I asked Stanback if his family has any preference.

"They kind of want me to stay close to home," said Stanback.

Stanback said he anticipates choosing a school sometime early in his senior year and signing in the early signing period.
