One of the West Coast's top shooters in 2016, 6-foot-6, 195-pound Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco small forward Vance Jackson has been pretty heavily recruited from the time he showed up on the AAU scene as a freshman.
This spring, the rising junior had several coaches in attendance to watch him play and his father, Vane Jackson, Sr., thinks he had a successful spring.
"I think he's had a pretty good spring," Jackson, Sr. said. "I've noticed that he's rebounding and handling the ball real well. His shot is looking fine and he's shooting the ball well. I'm happy with where his game is at."
The goal for Jackson is to keep developing in all areas.
"I always say he can keep working at everything," Jackson, Sr. said. "He wants to keep building more strength, quickness and explosion while improving at attacking the basket."
At this stage, there are a decent amount of schools seriously recruiting Jackson.
"San Diego State, California, UConn, Arizona, UCLA, USC, Stanford and Texas are pretty serious about him," said Jackson, Sr.
Despite all the attention, there are no favorites at this stage.
"He's completely open," said Jackson, Sr. "The choice is going to be who best fits him at the time. Things change over a year or two so we'll find what best suits him at the time.
"He wants to go to somebody that really needs him, that wants him to come in and score the ball for them and they believe in him to do it."
Location could play a factor, but how much of one remains to be seen.
"Of course he wants to stay on the West Coast but I'm not going to hold that against anybody," said Jackson, Sr.
A few Southern California schools could receive unofficial visits from Jackson this summer.
"I know we're going to go down and take an unofficial to San Diego State sometime and check out USC and UCLA," said Jackson, Sr.
There's no rush for Jackson to make a decision, as he's at the very beginning of his recruiting process.
"We haven't talked about getting anything over with; this is really just the beginning," Jackson, Sr. said. "We're going to get much more familiar with everyone."
