A look at the latest news and notes from out West in this week's notebook...
The Quarterback Shuffle
It was quite a week for quarterback recruiting out West.
One top ten quarterback decommitted and one named a top four. Another
four-star committed and a three-star made his commitment.
In one of the strongest years for quarterbacks in quite some time out West,
the past week was a wild one.
It got started when Corona (Calif.) Santiago four-star Blake Barnett took an
unofficial visit to Oregon early in the week and then decommitted from Notre Dame not long after.
That triggered the Irish to offer Anaheim (Calif.) Servite four-star Travis Waller, who named a top four on Monday of the Irish, Alabama, Ohio State and
Northwestern and targeting a decision date of July 1.
Barnett is visiting Alabama on Thursday, LSU on Friday and possibly Georgia
and Ole Miss, while Oregon still stands at the top.
Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde four-star Sheriron Jones made a
commitment of his own, committing to Florida on Sunday, following the path of
former Rancho Verde star Ronald Powell, who played the past four years in
And Pleasanton (Calif.) Foothill quarterback Kyle Kearns is also headed out
of state to play, the three-star committing to SMU earlier in the week.
More West Coasters to Beaverton
With the Elite 11 Finals and The Opening just a couple of weeks away and the
NFTC and Elite 11 Regional Tryout tour done, four more West Coasters punched
tickets to Beaverton.
Bothell (Wash.) quarterback Ross Bowers was the quarterback MVP at the Oregon
NFTC and after a good performance there and previously at the Oakland Elite 11,
he was the lone player in Eugene to earn an invitation back to the state for the
Elite 11 and The Opening.
Sheriron Jones started his big week off with an invitation of his own to the
Elite 11 Finals after he too was strong in Oakland and also in Los Angeles at
the respective Elite 11 Regional Camps.
Anaheim (Calif.) Servite receiver Equanimeous St. Brown became the second
Friar invited to The Opening where he'll join his quarterback Waller.
Herriman (Utah) offensive tackle Andre James joined the mix at The Opening,
the second year in a row the Beehive State had an offensive lineman invited.

In addition to Waller, two more of the West's premier prospects narrowed down
The West's No. 1 overall prospect, defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie, said
