Something that Fort Worth (Tex.) All Saints kicker Jonathan Song will bring to the school this fall? Experience.
The 5-foot-10, 188-pound prospect, who holds an offer from SMU, has been the varsity starting kicker since his freshman season at the school.
"I definitely am happy about how I've been doing field goal, punting, and kickoff wise. I just want to stay humble and keep on improving," he said.
He didn't see as much action during his junior season, with TCU quarterback signee Foster Sawyer leading the offense, but it's undeniable that Song has talent.
"It probably didn't help that Foster put up so many points," he laughed, "but I had a 35-yard field goal. My career high is 51 yards."
All Saints typically puts out guys each season and many coaches were by the school this spring to check out practice and scout new talent, including Song.
On Monday, Song told Horned Frog Blitz's Jeremy Clark that he had been offered as a gray shirt and had committed to the program in that role. However, Clark reports that Song did make it clear that he was still looking at other options.
"The recruiting process has been amazing. I pray every day that if I keep working hard and do well at the camps, that hopefully things will go me way. TCU, Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, UCLA, and Columbia are the main schools that have been showing interest," he said.
Song's summer plans included camping at a variety of schools, including those listed above and others he "has interest in," including Kansas State and Florida State. He is at UCLA this week.
The athlete is also keeping busy with his own kicking practices and working out with the team's strength and conditioning coach, Daniel Carroll.
"Every day, I'm kicking on my own practice wise. I also work with Scott Blanton; he used to kick at OU and for the Redskins, and I've been kicking with him every week. Coach Carroll has also been working with me to increase my leg strength," he said.
