Jones Earns UCLA Offer

2016 Long Beach (Calif.) Poly wide receiver Jack Jones was one of the early standouts at the UCLA 7-on-7 Team Camp on Tuesday, and his explosive play early on earned him a UCLA offer...

For several hours after Long Beach Poly receiver Jack Jones earned a UCLA offer, he couldn't wipe the smile off of his face.

"I feel great," Jones said. "It's the best feeling of my life. People always tell me 'be humble, be humble' so I just came out here and worked and played every down like it was my last."

The 5'10 speedster showed off his explosion early, catching a couple of touchdowns during the first game for Long Beach Poly, and even outshining (albeit briefly) 2015 stars Iman Marshall and Taeon Mason.

The performance was enough to earn the attention of UCLA's coaches, who gathered together with Jones and his father and gave him the offer.

"They said they liked me, they want me to play for their program, and they're going to offer me," Jones said.

The Bruins are offering Jones as a receiver, but he does have some versatility, playing primarily on defense last year for the Jackrabbits. Still skinny, he has a lot of room to grow into his body and develop physically.

The UCLA offer was his first, but Jones is certainly hungry for more.

"This is the first one. It's big," Jones said. "But I feel like it's not over. I've just got to keep working. I have to still go like I have a chip on my shoulder and keep working."

He did say, though, that UCLA definitely has the early lead.

"It would be nice to get other offers," Jones said. "But UCLA is one of my favorite schools, so I wouldn't mind going here."

His recruitment is still in the early stages, however, and Jones said he has no plans to make a decision before his senior year.
