Lockett Enjoying UCLA

2015 three-star Manvel (Tex.) cornerback William Lockett will participate in the Elite Camp today and it sounds as if the Bruins are high on his list...

2015 three-star Manvel (Tex.) cornerback William Lockett earned an offer from UCLA at the beginning of June, and almost immediately, he was planning his trip out to Los Angeles for the Bruin Elite Camp today.

"This is my first time to L.A. but my third time to California," Lockett said. "Compared to Houston, this feels way better. It's hot, but it's so nice out here, no humidity. This is perfect."

Interestingly, despite being a Texas native, Lockett said that he was always interested in what UCLA had to offer, even prior to the Bruins recruiting him.

"This has actually always been a school I've wanted to go to, besides football, just being in California, you always get a good degree from here," Lockett said. "Then when they offered me in football, it was just perfect timing, perfect everything."

Lockett has already built a good relationship with UCLA defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin, who he spent some quality time with on Tuesday alongside defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich.

"They like me at both safety and at corner," Lockett said. "They say I can play both. I feel like I've already got a good relationship with the coaches."

The plan for Lockett as of now is to commit by August, but he didn't rule out the possibility that he could make a commitment as early as this week while at UCLA.

"I could see myself probably committing by August, but you never know," Lockett said. "I'm not planning on committing on the visit, but things happen."

Lockett's visit ends Friday, so if he doesn't commit by the weekend, there's a pretty good chance that he'll take his other planned unofficial visits to LSU and Texas.

"Right now, Texas, UCLA, Missouri, Louisville, and Michigan State are all in the mix," Lockett said. "I've already visited Clemson, Louisville, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Auburn."

Whether or not he commits over the next couple of months, Lockett does want to take all five of his official visits, and he knows he'll spend one of those on UCLA. He also has plans to see UCLA again early in the season.

"I don't have a date in mind for the official, but I do know I want to go to the UCLA vs. Texas game in Dallas," Lockett said. "I grew up a Texas fan when I was younger, with Vince Young and everything, but not so much anymore."
