Chino Hills (Calif.) Ayala safety Philip Afia (6-1, 180) spent a couple days at UCLA last week.

"My team went for the 7v7 and then I went to the Bruin Elite Camp on Wednesday," said Afia. "It was a great experience. I got to work with Coach Meat (Demetrice Martin) and he is an amazing coach."

Afia also got to spend time talking with assistant running backs coach DeChaun Foster.

"I talked a lot with Coach Foster and he was just telling me what I need to do better," said Afia.

While UCLA didn't offer, Afia got a good indication of where he stands with UCLA.

"Coach Meat didn't tell me he was going to offer me right now, but hopefully during the season they'll offer," said Afia. "He said I'm high on their board and they just want to see me play more my senior season."

The UCLA camp was the lone camp that Afia did this summer, and his focus has been on Ayala's season, where the Bruin 7v7 came in handy.

"I thought we played really well there and did some good things at it," said Afia.

Afia has offers from Fresno State, Boise State, San Jose State, San Diego State, Utah, Utah State, Oregon State, Washington State and UNLV.

"I'm also hearing from Washington and USC," said Afia.

Three Pac-12 schools are after Afia hard.

"Oregon State, Washington State and Utah have all been definitely showing me the love," said Afia. "Those three really are after me."

Afia said all of his attention is coming as a safety.

"They like me as a safety and like that I'm versatile and have a range in my game," said Afia.

Afia doesn't want to rush through his recruitment.

"I definitely want to take visits before I decide so I know where suits me best," said Afia.
