Herriman (Utah) offensive lineman Andre James is headed to the Pac-12, announcing his commitment on Thursday on the final day of The Opening.

James chose UCLA over a final group that included Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, , USC and Utah.

“I’m going to the University of California, Los Angeles. UCLA,” said James.

James said that the Bruins early interest in him played a big part in his decision.

“They were the second school to offer me," said James. "I had a great relationship with them. The coaching staff is amazing. I love Coach (Adrian) Klemm and Coach (Taylor) Mazzone. It really came down to a gut feeling and my gut said UCLA.”

James eliminated in-state Utah, who was his first offer, and Oregon earlier this week but said it was really down to two when he decided.

“It really came down to UCLA and Ohio State,” said James.

James let the UCLA coaching staff know earlier this week.

“Coach Klemm was really excited. Coach (Jim) Mora was really excited too and fired up. The whole coaching staff was real fired up. It was great to see.”

James said he was happy to be done with the process.

“It’s a big relief. I had been wanting to get this thing over with for a while. I’m really happy to get this over with. It’s a big relief off my back.”

Now James is ready to do some recruiting of his own.

“I’m starting to push heavy with Osa Masina and Porter Gustin. And Dru Samia and Fred Ulu-Perry as well,” said James.
