Alize Jones took most of the spring and early summer off from camps and 7v7 tournaments so all eyes were on the gifted tight end to see what he could do in Beaverton. He started things off with a bang during the SPARQ testing showing why he's easily the most athletic tight end in the country.
Jones measured in at 6-5, 220 pounds, clocked a 4.67-40, 4.03 shuttle and jumped 37" in the vertical. He looked good catching the ball during the NIKE Camp portion of The Opening but fell awkwardly on his head and suffered a concussion.
"I went up for a ball and kind of had my legs taken out," Jones said. "I landed on my head and blacked out for a couple of seconds. When I got up, everything was kind of blurry for me. The doctor checked me out and said I had a concussion and told me I had to sit out the rest of the week.
"I was pretty emotional when they told me because I really wanted to be out there. We had Eric Ebron, the No. 1 TE drafted last year out here helping out and I really wanted to learn from him and the other coaches. I could have left a better player so that really sucked for me. I still had fun bonding with the guys but it was definitely disappointing for me."
On the recruiting front, Jones committed to UCLA way back in November and said he's still rock solid with the Bruins.
"Yeh, I'm 100% locked in, no visits, not talking to anyone else," Jones said. "I'm doing my best to recruit as much talent as possible. We just got Stephen Johnson and big Andre (James) and I've been talking to Ray-Ray McCloud all week too. I talk with Josh (Rosen) all the time as well, we hung out a lot and he's a great guy.
"It's cool, everyone is coming up to me asking about UCLA and Coach Mora. They asked why I committed and I told them UCLA is a big family. Westwood is incredible, it's a great academic school and the coaches are the best out there. It's funny growing up, my family always liked UCLA but they never did much. Now since Mora has been there, they're a national program and the future is bright. It's awesome to come in to a program like this and be a part of getting UCLA on top."
