Longson Breaks Down Top Six

The San Ramon (Calif.) Dougherty Valley four-star offensive tackle, Kieffer Longson, talked about his recently named top six...

San Ramon (Calif.) Dougherty Valley offensive lineman Kieffer Longson (6-7, 300) had double-digit offers, but this week, whittled his list down to a half-dozen schools.

“It’s my final six and I’m not really considering the other schools anymore,” said Longson. “I wanted to narrow it down.”

Longson narrowed it down to Arizona State, BYU, Ohio State, BYU, UCLA, USC and Utah, the two Los Angeles schools the only ones not to offer.

The four-star broke down the six schools who comprised his final list.

Arizona State: “I really liked it there. It’s got a good Mormon population and a very good team. I like the school and I really like the coaches there. Coach (Chris) Thomsen is recruiting me and I really like him.”

BYU: “I’m Mormon and that’s a school that sometimes Mormons go. I like Coach (Garett) Tujague and like the staff there. I really like the way they play. And the ability to serve my mission helps.

Ohio State: “They were my first offer. They’ve been known for putting linemen in the NFL and they’re very good at it. They put four offensive linemen in the NFL recently. I really liked it there. Coach (Ed) Warriner is recruiting me.”

UCLA: “My dad went there. He went to BYU and UCLA. I went to their Spring Game and enjoyed it. I visited for their camp (didn’t participate) and liked the coaches a lot. Coach (Adrian) Klemm and Coach (Angus) McClure are recruiting. They said they want to watch one of my early games before they offer.

USC: “They’ve got an amazing program and they’re very good. I really liked the culture there. Coach (Tim) Drevno is a great coach. I worked with him at their camp and I liked it there. They told me they want to see me play early in the year before they offer”

Utah: “Coach (Jim) Harding is recruiting me from Utah. I’m very interested in them. A lot of my family is in Utah. And they’ve put a lot of linemen in the NFL.”

Longson said he’s still planning to serve his LDS mission immediately upon graduation.

“I’ll do it right out of high school,” said Longson. “I think it’s strange to go in and play and learn for a year, then leave. So I’ll go right away.”

Longson said that three schools are recruiting him aggressively.

“Utah and BYU are both talking to me a lot and the same with Ohio State,” said Longson. Longson anticipates taking a handful of visits, but isn’t sure if he’ll take all five.

“I don’t have any visits set yet, but I will set them up soon,” said Longson. “I might do all five, but I’m not sure.”
