Alex Ligon, 6-3, 225, Torrance (Calif.) North Torrance, could be becoming a linebacker target for UCLA.
Ligon performed really well at the Nike Camp at San Diego last spring. He ran a 4.68 40, a 44.9 shuttle, jumped 33 inches in the vertical and put up 21 reps on the bench. Ligon, a nice-looking physical specimen, said he had 147 tackles last season as a junior, along with five sacks and one interception.
Ligon said he unofficially visited UCLA's campus on Sunday with his head coach for their practice and enjoyed the visit. He also visited Colorado at the end of July, and has been to USC for a couple of differentr camps.
Ligon said he likes Colorado, UCLA, USC, Washington and Oregon, while he's been officially offered a scholarship by Colorado, Montana State and San Jose State. "But I really don't have a leader right now," he said. "I want to take some time and learn all about the schools before I pick one. It was great so see all of the campuses that I have. I got to see what the schools and teams are all about. It's good to meet the coaches and players. I learned a lot. So, I want to learn more before making a decision."
Did he have a childhood favorite growing up? "I grew up liking UCLA," Ligon said. "Because they were close to home and I just kind of liked them. They were the first college team I started watching."
With a few out-of-state colleges on his list, it didn't seem like Ligon cared much about staying close to home. "It'd be nice. But my mom actually is leaning toward me going out of state. She likes Colorado."
Ligon did say that he thought, while he wanted to wait before making a decision, he didn't think he'd wait too long. "I don't think I'll wait until the last minute," he said. "I'll take all my trips and make a decision after that."
Ligon thinks that since only a few schools have offered him yet, it gives him time to gather more information, especially with more unofficial visits, and find out some things about each school that's important to him. "Location is important. I'm looking for a smaller type of place. Not big city. Well, not too big city. And I really want to check out the academics, the schools, and the teams."
Ligon said he plays on checking out a USC game this fall, and possibly will go to Colorado for a Buffalo game. He did say he already had plans to attend a UCLA game. "My high school team is going. The whole football teams is going to UCLA. You know that thing where UCLA invites kids from all different high schools. So, I'm already going to the UCLA-ASU game with that."
Ligon said that a few schools, including UCLA, have talked about offering him during his season. "They want to see me play this year, and they want to talk to me some more," he saidd.
Ligon said he's carrying a 2.85 GPA and will take the SAT this fall.
