Four-star Kinston (NC) shooting guard Brandon Ingram spent most of the spring earning heavy attention from the local schools in North Carolina and Duke, but his recruitment has now gone national in a big way.
"The newest schools involved are Kentucky, Kansas, and UCLA," Ingram said. "Those are the ones that have offered recently."
The offer from the Bruins came after the UCLA coaching staff saw Ingram for the first time two weeks ago at adidas Unrivaled.
"Coach Alford has been talking to me a lot from UCLA," Ingram said. "That was actually their first time seeing me at adidas Unrivaled when they offered. They said they love everything about me and love my game. They see me as a 2, a 3, or a 4, really whatever."
With a planned decision by the November signing period, the question is whether the new schools involved can break the stranglehold that Tobacco Road has on this recruitment.
"These new schools can still make a big impact," Ingram said. "They're all schools that can take me to the next level after college, so they can make a good impact in my recruitment. Jus know the history of each of those schools and their ability to get players to the League, they completely have a chance with me even though they might be late."
Ingram went on to say that it didn't matter to him whether he stayed in North Carolina for college or went elsewhere.
He did say, though, that Duke was his favorite growing up.
"I grew up a big fan of Duke," Ingram said. "They're recruiting me as a versatile player, anywhere on the floor. Coach K actually calls or texts me or talks to me some way almost every day."
On the visit agenda, Ingram knows he'll take an official visit to Duke this fall, and then has tentative plans to visit UCLA this week.
"I'm thinking about taking an unofficial visit after adidas Nations to get a better look at the school," Ingram said. "It'll be a good opportunity to check out a new environment and see how I like California."
