Young Gets Another Offer

The linebacker/running back from Arizona, Dedrick Young, just added another program that offered he'll consider for an official visit...

Peoria (Ariz.) Centennial running back/linebacker Dedrick Young is still racking up the offers. The 6-foot-1 and 214-pound recruit says that the latest offer came last weekend when he received a message from a Big Ten school stating that they had some good news.

"I got the offer from Nebraska on Saturday," Young said. "They have been talking to me for a couple of months. The coach messaged me and said he had some good news. I called Coach Ron Brown and he told me."

Nebraska likes Young on the defensive side of the ball and Young says that he doesn't have a preference. He says that as a linebacker he moves well laterally and can do a number of other things from the outside linebacker spot.

"It's fine with me (about playing linebacker). It' doesn't matter which side of the ball they like me at. Nebraska likes me at outside linebacker. I think that I have good lateral speed, can fill gaps and can cover people."

The interest in Young is about 50-50 between offense and defense. As he stated before he doesn't necessarily have a preference on the field -- he just wants to do what's best for the team.

"It's kind of split," Young said. "UCLA, Colorado, Colorado State and Northwestern all like me as a running back. Nebraska, Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan State and Oregon State all like me as a linebacker."

Young was working hard this summer to get better on both sides of the ball. He said that there were specific areas that he wanted to improve on both sides of the football.

"As a running back I wanted to work on getting my knees up higher. I wanted to also be faster in and out of my cuts. Working as a linebacker I was working on using my hands to get off of blocks."

Young has taken a few trips so far. Beyond the unofficial visits that he's already taken he hasn't had a chance to sort out which schools will get an official visit yet.

"I went to UCLA and to Washington for my out-of-state visits. I also went to Arizona and Arizona State. I haven't thought about where I will take my official visits yet."

Nebraska is a little late coming to the table with an offer, but Young says that doesn't matter. He's really interested in getting to know some more about the Huskers before determining if he will visit Lincoln or not.

"Getting the offer a little later doesn't hurt them. I don't know if I will take an official visit there or not. I have to do some more research on the school and see."
