VIDEO: Payton Talks Camp

Receiver Jordan Payton talks about who's going to fill Shaquelle Evans' role, how Devin Lucien has matured, and what freshmen have stood out to him...

Jordan Payton:

On playing Y:
I'm always nagging them about it. I don't know if you've seen TD catch 8-9 TD passes. It was more a couple guys went down, I can play there, so it was filling in.

On filling Shaq Evans' role:
That was all of our mindsets, who's going to take the lead. We each have our own style and each can do something different. With Shaq leaving, its a big loss for us, he's such a great player. We all had to take our own roles to be the best individually. It's working out, we're all developing into key targets.

On Devin Lucien:
He's come a long way, I'll tell you that much. He's always been a good friend of mine, besides the spring. He's definitely slipping in to a leadership role and talking to the young guys.

On if Brett Hundley has matured as a leader:
Yeah, definitely. He's yelling at me all the time. He's stepping into the player he's been hyped up to be. He needs to. That's definitely something he's taken on. I think he's the best quarterback in the countr. He's taken charge, it's his offense, he's calling things out.

On if Hundley was less assertive in earlier years:
I can't speak for him, but from my perspective, it would be different for a younger guy to scream at the veterans. Now that he's the man, the one who's in charge, he being older helps out. We call him "SI" now.

On the younger receivers:
They're good. I look at them and they're a lot better than I was as a freshman. Alex Van Dyke is a freak. When he gets it down, he'll be a good player. Hopefully when I leave. But he's a good young kid and he'll do a lot of good things for us.
