Samia to Attend Practice Today

Danville (Calif.) San Ramon Valley offensive lineman Dru Samia took an unofficial visit to Oklahoma on Thursday and the Sooners made a big impression on the talented tackle...

Dru Samia has been a revelation all spring/summer and emerged as one of the elite offensive linemen in the West Region. He dominated the NorCal NIKE Camp earning OL MVP honors and was very impressive at The Opening as well.

Samia has great size at a solid 6-6, 295 pounds and is one of the most physical lineman in the country. He plays under control but with the perfect amount of nastiness. He's very strong, plays with advanced technique and has the quickness to stay at tackle or could move inside and play guard without any issue.

On the recruiting front, Samia is planning an early commitment, sometime before school starts in September. UCLA was considered the front runner but the lineman took a visit to Oklahoma Thursday and the Sooners are a real player now.

"I had a great visit and really liked it there," Samia said. I drove up with my uncle and got to campus around the middle of practice. We watched the rest of the practice, then did an academic tour, saw the facilities, checked out the dorms and then met with the coaches.

"We packed a lot in for sure, it was like a mini-official visit. I was talking with Coach Bedenbaugh, the OL coach and he told me they wanted to offer and then I sat with Coach Stoops in his office and he made it official. That was a great feeling for sure, Coach Stoops is a great coach and just sitting in his room and looking around at all the championship rings and trophies, that's a big time program so it meant a lot."

Samia will now check out UCLA on Saturday and a decision could come shortly after.

"I visited for their Spring game and camped there but this will be my first time going to a practice and seeing how they do things up close," Samia said. "I have a good relationship with Coach Klemm so it will be cool to see his coaching style and see what the team looks like.

"Right now, I like both programs a lot. Other than location, they actually have a lot of similarities so when I'm done with this visit, I'll sit down with my family and figure out where I fit in the best. My uncle is the one who has really helped me the most through this process and the one I lean on when talking about colleges. We'll sit down and talk this out and then hopefully make my decision."
